this morning, i attended my first board tender committee meeting, as a member that is, for a subsidiary company. my immediate superior is away in china so i replaced her for the meeting.
i rushed to the meeting, not wanting to be late and thank god, i wasn't. the meeting was chaired by an old but very wise and powerful looking man... he looked so familiar. i looked at the attendance sheet and saw his name, Dato' Yusof Ibrahim.... oh, he was on the Board for the subsidiary i used to work 11 years ago.
on one of the papers presented, he looked at me and said, 'yes Cik Puan, what does Procurement (Division) say? i went beserk...what do i say? it was quite a complicated subject being discussed. do we allow certain decision to be made? i commented on it (didn't feel inteligent saying whatever i said). based on my comments, he made a decision...
i can still hear him say.... if you have made rules and you bend them, you will not command respect anymore....
it was a nice feeling to be in this meeting.... i can now look forward to many similar meetings.
