my sunshines

i don't wait for sunshine every morning as these smiles are more than just sunshines....

special guest

my brother and i were born about 20 months apart. he is my childhood friend. as we were growing up, he was more of a friend than a brother though there were times he would look upon me as an elder sister.

there were times in life he was made responsible to take care of me as in he accompanied me to the tuition classes and made sure i was safe. there were times i was his role model in terms of education. he has always be there for me. we have a lot of there were times....

now that we are adults having our own families....he is still my friend, my advisor, my banker (hehehehe) and to many people, my elder brother (he behaves like one too).

the amazing thing in life is that though he will be ahead of me in many aspects, without him realising God will always make him wait for me.... it has always been me first then him.

he is now posted overseas and i will get to see him a few times in a year. it is a sad thing as i wish i could go back to my childhood days and spend more time with my playmate.

this is the both of us...
my best friend
his family and my children...
among my parents' grandchildren..... these two are the only of the same age! i hope they will be the best of friends and share the special bonding i have with my brother.....

congratulations

happy married life to jasima and ashraf....
may Allah bless you both with everlasting love and happiness. amin.

doa

some wee hours of the nights long time ago, i used to write doa that i wanted to recite in my prayers. while i was doing 5S, i found this doa that i wrote before i got married.

bismillahirrahmanirrahim

ya allah, ya tuhan kami,
peace be upon the holy prophet muhammad s.a.w

ya allah, i pray for my peace of heart and mind in all aspects of my life in good times and bad times. everything comes from you and shall return to you.

ya allah, bestow upon me good virtues of humbleness, patience, just, leadership, good thoughts and good words, strength of heart and mind and all other values that will show me towards the righteousness in life.

ya allah, bestow upon me the rightful rizq and wealth so that i would be able to contribute to the betterment of others around me.

ya allah, protect me from segala bebanan hutang and help me to spend my rizq prudently and avoid worthless expenditure.

ya allah, bestow your blessings upon me the priceless rizq in the form of a husband and children. ya allah, bless me with a husband who is right for me in dunia and akhirah. bestow upon me a sense of belonging to where i belong to in dunya and akhirah.

ya allah, bestow upon me the blessings on all the goodness for me in this life and hereafter.

ya allah, i pray for your blessings to those who loves me and who i love. bestow upon my family health, wealth, peace, iman and happiness. ya allah, bless my parents with peace of heart, mind and iman.

ya allah, i pray for your blessings to all those who have been kind to me and bestow upon them your blessings that you bestow upon me and my family and much more. may all of them benefit from this prayer.

show us the right path. for those who i have wronged and those who have wronged me, may you reconcile us should that be the best for us....

this doa i re-typed as is without editing as it was a thought process and flow of words from the heart...

kumon

my children had been exposed to the idea of kumon methodology of learning for quite sometime their cousins are also attending kumon. whenever we were back in my hometown, they are actively involved when their cousins are doing their daily worksheets. they would take their activity books and pretend that it was their kumon worksheets.

since i am into this idea of strategic thinking of children's development, one day I realised that it would be a good idea if nadia nasira had started reading. it will occupy her time and reduce siblings squabbling. may be the brother would benefit from having an elder sister who is able to read. furthermore, reading habit must be inculcated when they are young.

i googled for a kumon centre nearby my house and found one. the instructor requested me to bring my daughter for an assessment to determine her level though i know she would starting from the lowest level. we decided to bring both my toddlers for the assessment. we arrived there quite late due to traffic jam. there were lots and lots chinese students including toddlers with their parents...so many of them in that centre. i had already made up mind to look for another centre.

as assistant instructor greeted us and brought my children in for the assessment. i was surprised that parents were not allowed. my husband said... that is nashwan crying. true enough… he was. poor baby...wanted his mummy. this made me think of nadia nasira's early days of going to school. the instructor allowed me to sit with them while they go on with their assessment. nadia nasira did quite well in the assessment. she answered it all. she was able to associate pictures and words. however, she was unable to recognize words. it was interesting to watch how they deduce an answer.

As for muhammad nashwan nasr, it was funny watching him and the assessor. i saw role reversal where my son was teaching the instructor. since I was with him, he wasn't anxious at all and very confident, instead. he was also able to associate pictures and words. funny the way he interpreted the pictures… these were the pics and his answers:

Man catching fish : man pukul fish
A cup & saucer: kopi
Flower: pokok

We had a discussion with the instructor to discuss the results and the program, both maths and english. we decided to send nadia nasira in january while muhammad nashwan nasr needs to go to a proper school first and get the concept of sitting down and listening to the teacher before he can be sent.

5S

i had connection problem with the internet and intranet at the office yesterday. without those two communication channel, a lot of work are left undone in today's world. thus, i had so much free time that i finally decided to carry out 5S instead.

i found the last two payment receipts of my study loan back in 2007. i have no idea i had kept them. it was so timely because i had recently received a lawyer's notice requesting me to pay the balance within 14 days failing which blah...blah...blah... i fumed with my anger at the lawyer's office since they were the party who had initially issued the payment receipts. it was due to their inefficiencies that i received such a notice and therefore, i requested them to rectify immediately. ceewaah... pantang nenek moyang aku!

the irony of it all is.....5S is the initiative i least appreciate. thank you 5S!

my signature kitchen

of all the spots in my house, i'm love my kitchen the most, simply because i love to cook. i feel happy cooking for the loved ones. to bear my signature, i designed my kitchen myself, chose the tiles and designed the kitchen cabinets... ok...ok... hubs agreed to all the suggestions and chose the material for the dry kitchen. lucky me, our contractor is quite reputable as he only does high end projects. his suggestions were brilliant as well. i am happy to recommend him to anyone. we negotiated the price and i guess, it was a good deal.

my kitchen now appears complete as the kitchen cabinets were installed last friday. here is presenting my kitchen.. the before and the after pics as is after the installation.

the before look... dry kitchen.... i know! i know! no maid lah...

wet kitchen... i was half way cooking when this pic was taken.

strategic thinking for children's future

those days, talents are identified in schools by teachers who then assist the students to excel in those specific areas mostly to represent their schools in various competitions. to many, the journey stops here unless they are chosen to continue the journey towards a more successful future.

today, things have changed... many parents are taking a more strategic approach in looking out for their children's future and help them pave their path in life. why not? if you were to notice your child's interest in painting, encourage him/her and provide opportunity as well as the necessary exposure to sharpen his/her skills. with God's blessings, he/she may be another da vinci...

this is exactly what a neighbour of mine did. he was a football player for the state level in his prime years. he trained his children since they were young and saw a potential in one of his sons. he is a left foot striker!!! the father enrolled him in the brazil football club and his son's talent started shining. his son's coach noticed and advised my neighbour to send his son to england for training. he got chosen and played for arsenal under 12. now, he has secured another 2 year contract with another club. the way i see it, one day he will be another fabregas... http://www.mysinchew.com/node/42206

while we think of the many worldly elements of our children's future, never let the hereafter be an oversight. we must also think strategically for their eternal future. my best friend nuff had once said which shocked me into realisation... even if we burn in the hellfire, never let our children smell the hellfire. i know that we cannot guarantee tomorrow but at least, we could try to help them pave their paths strategically.

spotting a talent is important... nevertheless, what is more important is helping that child maximise his/her talent and realise his/her dream.

birthday aunty na...

it was their aunty na's birthday last october which we couldn't celebrate since everyone was back in ipoh... when we got back in town, back to our routine, we celebrated her birthday. we ordered pizza while hubs got kfc. i thought of organising a much to talk about event to mark her day but with limited resources (no maid), up and about toddlers as well as my little baby, we opted for a home do!

here's wishing her... all the best in your life....may your life be enveloped by eternal happiness... thank you for lending your hands to be that extra hands when i'm in need.

eid ul adha

after years of not celebrating day 1 of eid with my family, it was a great pleasure to be together with my entire family the recent eid ul adha. eid at my mum's is usually so fun as it is the time the entire family would gather, especially on the eve when the festive mood is at its peak.

the girls will cook all kinds of food... rendang, nasi impit, kuah kacang, cakes, candy and my mum's speciallity like mutton kurma and mutton masala. some will do the ironing of new clothes to be worn on the eid morning while the younger ones will stay awake and watch tv until late night. for years, it was usually my mum and i who were to sleep the last as i would feel guilty leaving my mum alone.

in the morning, the men will go for eid prayers while the ladies will pray at home. my mum will read a doa at the end of the prayers. as the men arrive from the mosque, we will have the alaati session for the men. we will eat a hearty breakfast of lemang & rendang, nasi impit, kuah kacang, indian custard, putu mayam with mutton kurma.... after that we will laze around while my mum will prepare lunch with my sisters.... it really felt great this eid ul adha....
